When Peace Grows Quiet

What is peace? Where can it be found?
And what happens if it disappears completely one day?

This piece was created for the 36th issue of the HfG student magazine "Format."

The poem "Wenn Frieden leiser wird" ("When Peace Grows Quiet") casts a worried yet hopeful glance toward the future. It warns, appeals, and encourages readers to stand up for peace. A deliberate design approach underscores the poem's distinctive atmosphere.

[about]

Not only through the text, but also — and perhaps especially — through the hand-drawn illustrations and the generous use of negative space, a distinctive atmosphere emerges, conveying to the reader the impression of a world without peace. Silent. Cold. Lonely.

Through a fitting choice of color and typography, the article integrates seamlessly into the magazine, creating a harmonious overall look. Yet it stands out through its emptiness, sparking the viewer's curiosity.

[a few words]

He wants to rule, he demands with certainty.
He lets others fight for him, fleeting as wind.
He always needs work, is never fully here.
Needs preservation and protection, always at risk.

You cannot demand and yourself remain idle.
You must also act, you must decide!
Do you want to carry guilt forever?
Or ask for reconciliation?

The quiet whisper of peace
and of loving one another
grows quieter, grows softer.
Will it vanish one day, forever?
